Chinese student killed in robbery in South Africa

The Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Johannesburg, South Africa recently released information regarding an incident where eight Chinese students were robbed, and one was killed on Monday, according to Xinhua.

On Tuesday, the office revealed the students were held at gunpoint and robbed while riding a bus on their way back to school. One of the students was shot in the chest and killed, while the others fled the area to a nearby police station for help.

Officials from the consulate were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving news about the occurrence and expressed serious concerns about the murder. Furthermore, the office requested that local police should work quickly to arrest the murderer as soon as possible.

Chinese Consulate-General officials met with the surviving students after the incident and said that the office will pay close attention to the progress of the case and fully assist in matters such as aftercare.
