Russia has recorded 7,728 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 584,680, the country's coronavirus response center said Sunday in a statement.

The death toll rose by 109 to 8,111, while 339,711 people have recovered, including 5,119 over the last 24 hours, said the statement.

Moscow, the country's worst-hit region, reported 968 newly confirmed cases, taking its tally of infections to 213,946.

On Saturday, 310,774 people were still under medical observation, while nearly 17 million virus tests have been conducted nationwide, Russia's consumer rights and human well-being watchdog said in a statement on Sunday.
