Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who murdered 46-year-old African-American George Floyd on May 25, 2020, and was subsequently convicted of violating his civil rights, will be sentenced in federal court on July 7. The judges are expected to give Chauvin 20 to 25 years in prison, similar to the 22.5-year sentence already imposed by a state court, AP reported on Tuesday.

Floyd died after Chauvin knelt on his neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds on a street in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After live video was uploaded, massive and enduring waves of protests against police brutality and racial discrimination gripped the United States.
