Polls opened on Sunday for Costa Rica's presidential election, seeing citizens take to the ballot box to decide between right-wing Rodrigo Chaves and centrist Jose Maria Figueres.

"As of this moment the voting stations open. Go to your center and vote," the electoral tribunal said on Twitter. Polls opened at 6:00 a.m. local time (1200 GMT) and will close at 6:00 p.m. (0000 GMT).
