The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 949,486 with the global confirmed cases reaching 30,372,127 as of 8.30 am BJT on Saturday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The outbreak has now claimed 202,288 lives in the US, the most of any country, with a total of 6,856,526 infections, according to a tally by the 1Point3Acres virus tracker as of 8.30 am BJT on Saturday.

India's total COVID-19 tally rose to 5,214,677 and the number of deaths surged to 84,372, according to the latest data issued by the federal health ministry on Friday.

Brazil has registered 135,793 deaths from the novel coronavirus disease, raising the total number of cases to 4,495,183, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday.

Russia took its total to 1,086,955, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Friday.

Peru has reported 750,098 COVID-19 cases and 31,146 deaths from the virus so far.

The Colombia's confirmed cases have increased to 743,945 with the number of deaths at 23,665, according to the JHU virus tracker.

It is followed by Mexico with 72,179 deaths from 684,113 infections.

South Africa has recorded 657,627 confirmed cases and 15,857 deaths.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 30,495 lives in Spain, bringing the total number of infections to 640,040.

A total of 601,713 people in Argentina have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 12,656.
