The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 926,307 with the global confirmed cases reaching 29,159,839 as of 9:30 am BJT on Tuesday according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Ruili City in southwest China's Yunnan Province will launch citywide nucleic acid testing after two COVID-19 cases from overseas were reported in the city, local authorities said on Monday.

A New York Times survey of more than 1,600 American colleges and universities has revealed at least 88,000 COVID-19 cases and at least 60 deaths since the pandemic began.

Israel's Ministry of Health reported 4,764 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total infections in the country to 160,368. It is the highest daily rise since the outbreak of the pandemic in Israel in late February, as the previous record was 4,429 registered on Sept. 10.

The Jordanian government on Monday announced its decision to suspend most of schools and close coffee shops, restaurants and mosques for two weeks starting Thursday amid a rise in coronavirus infections. On Monday, Jordan recorded two coronavirus-related deaths and 214 new cases, raising the death toll to 26 and the total tally in the kingdom to 3,528, according to Health Minister Saad Jaber.

Turkey does not see any slow down in transmission rate of the novel coronavirus, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Monday. Turkey confirmed 1,716 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, raising the total diagnosed patients to 292,878.
