The most up-to-date national emissions cutting plans put Earth on course to reach up to 2.6C of global warming this century, a United Nations assessment showed Thursday.

The UN's Environment Programme in its annual Emissions Gap report, calculated that country plans to lower their carbon pollution would lead to a 5 to 10-percent cut in emissions in 2030, compared with current policies already in place.

UNEP says emissions must fall by 45 percent by then in order to keep the Paris Agreement temperature cap of 1.5C within reach.
