BRUSSELS, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) has "tools at our disposal" and "currently nothing is off the table," EU economy commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis said on Monday in response to recent U.S. tariff threats related to Greenland.

In Brussels, ahead of the Eurogroup meeting, he told the reporters that the EU had measures at its disposal, including a pending tariff package that could be renewed or allowed to take effect in February, as well as anti-coercion tools.
He criticized Washington for putting trade pressure on the EU, saying tariff threats were not an acceptable way to address questions of sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that there was a lot to lose economically for both Europe and the United States, including U.S. companies and workers.
Reaffirming the EU's support for Denmark and Greenland, Dombrovskis stressed the principle of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of EU member states.
In a social media post over the weekend, Trump said the United States would levy a 10-percent tariff from Feb. 1 on goods from eight European countries that stood against his ambition to control Greenland. He warned the rate would rise to 25 percent on June 1 and remain in place until a deal is reached for the "complete and total purchase" of Greenland. Such a threat has sparked wide protest and criticism across Europe.
