6 killed in pile-up in Indonesia's West Sumatra province

JAKARTA, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed and several others injured in a multiple-vehicle traffic accident in Indonesia's West Sumatra province on Monday, local police said.

The accident occurred on the main road linking Padang Panjang City and Bukittinggi City.

The vehicles involved included a trailer truck carrying fertilizer, one box truck and several two-wheeled vehicles, according to the Traffic Unit of the Padang Panjang Police.

Five people were initially reported dead at the scene, while several others sustained injuries. Shortly afterward, another victim was found dead and evacuated from the trailer truck, bringing the death toll to six.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Police are conducting a crime scene examination and investigation while assisting with the evacuation process.
