VLADIVOSTOK, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese tourist died after a car carrying tourists overturned on the frozen surface of Lake Baikal in Russia on Wednesday.
According to TASS, it occurred on the ice near Olkhon Island in Lake Baikal, in Russia's Irkutsk Oblast.
The Chinese Consulate General in Irkutsk confirmed the death and added that four other Chinese tourists sustained minor injuries.
Upon receiving the report, the consulate general immediately activated its emergency response plan, contacting the tour guide, the Chinese tourists, and local rescue personnel.
Meanwhile, the consulate general also coordinated volunteers to rush to the scene and requested that rescue personnel promptly transport the injured to the medical station in the town of Khuzhir for treatment.
At present, the injured have been transferred to a hospital in Olkhon District, and the consulate general is making every effort to assist with follow-up arrangements.
The Russian Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into the incident.
