WINDHOEK, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The celebration of the Chinese Spring Festival took place in Windhoek, Namibia's capital, on Saturday evening, showcasing the long-standing relationship between China and Namibia through music, culture, art, and history.

The event featured Namibian and Chinese artists, with performances including horse riding, music, dragon and lion dances, and poetry.

Utoni Nujoma, a Namibian politician, said the celebration not only marked the upcoming Chinese New Year but also reinforced the bonds of friendship and cooperation that have defined the relationship between the two nations.

"Beyond broader diplomatic ties and political mutual trust, the key projects and programs between our two countries have been human-centered, impacting the lives of many Namibians positively," he said.

Zhao Weiping, Chinese ambassador to Namibia, said the theme of the Year of the Horse, which represents success and prosperity and will begin on Feb. 17, 2026, reflects the enduring connection between the two nations.

"This celebration is not just about new beginnings; it symbolizes the strength of our ties," Zhao said.

At the event, this connection was further shown by a donation to SOS Children's Village, a childcare home in Namibia, from six Chinese-funded enterprises -- three based in Namibia and three from China.

Sylvia Shimaneni, fund development and communication manager at the charity, said the donation reflects a remarkable spirit of unity, generosity, and partnership.

"This contribution not only supports the organization's mission to provide essential resources and care for vulnerable children but also strengthens China-Namibia friendship. This kindness will make a significant impact on the lives of those in need," she said.

Cui Yunke, managing director of China Henan International Cooperation Group in Namibia, said the donation is a way to give back to the Namibian community and strengthen positive connections between the peoples of both countries.
