MANILA, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- A worker discovered a corroded vintage bomb while digging at a construction site inside the campus of the University of the Philippines Diliman on Tuesday, the police said.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was called to the site, conducted standard safety procedures and recovered one vintage bomb for custody and proper disposition, the QCPD said in a statement.

The Philippine Collegian, the official student publication of the university, reported that the bomb may date back to World War II, when Japanese forces heavily bombed Metro Manila.

Unexploded wartime ordnance continues to surface in various parts of the country, particularly during construction and excavation activities, decades after the end of the war.
