Mongolia exports 9.7 mln tons of coal in January

ULAN BATOR, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia exported a total of 9.7 million tons of coal in January 2026, according to official data released by the Mongolian Customs General Administration on Wednesday.
The figure was an increase of 86.4 percent from the same period in 2025, the administration reported.
The mining sector remains one of the main pillars of the Mongolian economy, as the country is rich in natural resources. Mining commodities, such as iron ore, copper, zinc concentrate, crude oil, coal and combed cashmere, constituted 81.3 percent of Mongolia's total exports during the above-mentioned period of 2026.
The landlocked Asian country exported 83.9 million tons of coal in 2025, hitting a historic high.
