Thai police have brought under control a gunman who stormed a school in southern Thailand, according to the Songkhla provincial public relations office.

In its latest update, the office said that as of 18:38 local time, the suspect had been brought under control by police.

Earlier, Thai media reported that a man had entered a school in Hat Yai district, Songkhla province, on Wednesday afternoon. The number of teachers and students being held by the gunman was unclear at the time. Police were working to rescue those detained.
