DPRK's Ninth Party Congress opens in Pyongyang -- KCNA

PYONGYANG, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), the ruling party of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), opened on Thursday, with Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK, attending and delivering an opening address, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Friday.

"This Congress will correctly review and analyze the work done during the period of the eighth term of the Party Central Committee, establish the lines and policies for developing our socialist construction onto a higher stage, and take organizational and institutional measures for readjusting and consolidating the Party's leadership ability," Kim was quoted as saying in the address.

The congress approved three agenda items, a review of the work of the WPK Central Committee, a revision of the Party's rules and the election of the WPK's central leadership body, said the report.
