AMMAN, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, stressing the urgent need to uphold the ceasefire agreement.

According to a foreign ministry statement, the two sides reviewed the developments during a phone call, emphasizing the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire while intensifying efforts to ensure sufficient, sustained and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid into the enclave.

The discussion also addressed rising tensions in the occupied West Bank. Safadi warned against what he described as illegal Israeli measures aimed at annexing Palestinian land, including the designation of additional areas as "state land," the extension of Israeli authority over building permits and demolition procedures in areas administered by the Palestinian Authority.

He cautioned that such measures risk further undermining prospects for peace and eroding the viability of the two-state solution.

Both sides stressed the need for coordinated regional and international efforts to contain tensions and advance a political path that safeguards regional security and stability.
