S. Korea's imported car sales log double-digit growth in February

SEOUL, March 5 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sales logged a double-digit growth in February due to robust demand for electric vehicles and German luxury models, industry data showed Thursday.

The number of imported vehicles sold here soared 34.6 percent from a year earlier to 27,190 in February, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association.

For the first two months of this year, 48,150 imported cars were sold, up 35.9 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

U.S. automaker Tesla ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 7,868 units in February.

German automaker BMW came next with the sale of 6,313 units, followed by German carmaker Mercedes-Benz with 5,322 units, Lexus with 1,113 units, Volvo with 1,095 units, Audi with 991 units and BYD with 957 units.

The number of European models sold here was 16,107 in February, taking up 59.2 percent of the total. U.S., Japanese and Chinese brands recorded the market shares of 30.1 percent, 7.1 percent and 3.5 percent each.
