China on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the rising tensions in the Middle East, warning that a prolonged and escalating conflict serves the interests of no party.

Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the remarks at a routine press briefing when asked about China's policy and position on the regional situation.

Guo noted that Beijing has been "intensively carrying out mediation efforts," with Foreign Minister Wang Yi holding phone conversations with his counterparts from multiple countries to exchange views on the situation.

According to the spokesperson, Zhai Jun, the Chinese government's special envoy on the Middle East issue, is currently conducting shuttle visits to the region.

"The continuation of fighting and the escalation of conflict serve the interests of no one," Guo said.

He added that China will continue to maintain communication with all relevant parties, including those involved in the conflict, to strengthen mediation and build consensus.

China remains committed to pushing for a de-escalation of the situation and the cooling down of tensions, the spokesperson stated.
