MOSCOW, March 10 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Consulate General in the Iranian city of Isfahan was damaged as a result of an attack on a nearby gubernatorial office, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Tuesday.

Russia considers attacks on diplomatic and consular missions a flagrant violation of fundamental norms of international law, Zakharova said in a statement posted on social media.

"We demand that all parties strictly respect the inviolability of diplomatic facilities and refrain from any attacks on the safety, life and health of their personnel," she said.

Zakharova also urged parties to the conflict to immediately end military confrontation and return to the negotiating table.

In the statement, Zakharova said that the incident occurred on March 8 in an attack targeting the Isfahan provincial governor's office, located near the Russian consulate.

The blast shattered windows in the consulate's office building and residential apartments, and several staff members were thrown back by the shockwave, she said.

Fortunately, there were no casualties or serious injuries, she added.
