ACCRA, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Two people died in a microlight aircraft crash in Ghana's eastern port city of Tema on Monday, said Ebenezer Yenzu, spokesman for the Tema Region of Ghana National Fire Service.

According to Yenzu, the microlight aircraft crashed on the compound of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly Nursery 3 School at Community 1 in the port city around 2:49 p.m. local time.

The spokesman added that it took the fire service just about five minutes to put out the fire with the help of some eyewitnesses.

"There were only two people on board the light aircraft and both died in the crash," Yenzu noted, adding that the children were in their classrooms when the incident occurred and none were hurt.

"With the help of personnel of the National Disaster Management Organization, Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces, we were able to retrieve the bodies of the two deceased occupants from the mangled body of the aircraft and handed them over to the police for preservation," Yenzu told Xinhua.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, the spokesman said.
