A senior Chinese diplomat said on Wednesday that China is deeply concerned that the entire Middle East is being pushed toward a dangerous abyss. Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, made these remarks during a speech at a UN Security Council meeting on Syria. Fu emphasized that when discussing the situation in Syria, the broader regional context cannot be ignored.

The continuation of conflict in the Middle East will only bring more suffering to local people and cause significant negative effects on both the regional and global economies, the Chinese diplomat added.

Fu called for an immediate ceasefire to stop the war, prevent the spread of conflict, and swiftly return to dialogue and negotiations. China is ready to continue playing a constructive role in seeking peace, Fu stated.
