A recent survey indicates that public opinion in several key US allies is shifting, with more respondents viewing China as a dependable partner amid evolving global dynamics.

The poll, jointly conducted by US-based Politico and British research firm Public First, found that respondents in Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Germany increasingly favor closer engagement with China. Many participants also believe the United States' role as a global superpower is declining.

According to the survey, a growing number of respondents consider China more reliable than the United States while expressing support for reducing reliance on Washington. At the same time, fewer believe it would be feasible to significantly reduce dependence on China, reflecting the country's central role in global supply chains.

Analysts say the shift is partly driven by changes in US foreign policy in recent years, which have strained relations with traditional allies. Meanwhile, China has expanded economic and trade cooperation with European partners, with increased exchanges and agreements reinforcing bilateral ties.

Younger respondents, in particular, show stronger support for closer relations with China. Observers note that digital platforms and expanding people-to-people exchanges have contributed to a more diverse understanding of China among younger generations.

"As Washington and its allies grow more estranged, the perception of the US as the dominant world power is in retreat, though most Americans don't see it that way," according to Politico.

"About half of all respondents in Canada, Germany, France and the UK believe that China is rapidly becoming a more consequential superpower. This is particularly true among those who say the US is no longer a positive force for the world," it noted.

The survey also highlights perceptions of China's growing strength in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, renewable energy and electric vehicles. Many respondents believe China is playing a leading role in key technological sectors, further enhancing its global influence.
