WARSAW, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday announced a series of measures aimed at lowering fuel prices amid soaring global energy costs triggered by the Middle East conflict.

Poland will cut value-added tax (VAT) on fuel from 23 percent to 8 percent and reduce excise duties to the minimum level allowed under European Union rules, Tusk said at a press conference.

Fuel prices are expected to fall by approximately 1.2 zloty (0.32 U.S. dollars) per liter across all fuel types, he added.

The government will also introduce maximum fuel prices per liter, to be set daily by the energy minister, Tusk said.

Parliament is expected to pass the necessary legislation on Friday, allowing the measures to be sent to the president for signing, he said.
