Visiting U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Wednesday that a ceasefire agreement reached between the United States and Iran was a "fragile truce."

Speaking at an event at Mathias Corvinus Collegium in Budapest, Vance confirmed the agreement reached on Tuesday, under which Iran agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States and Israel announced suspension of military strikes.

He said U.S. President Donald Trump's military objective to "decimate the Iranian military, decimate their ability to wage conventional war" has been achieved.

He added that Trump's ultimatum to Iran is demanding the reopening of the strait, but if Iran resorted to "lying" or "cheating" in the negotiations, or sought to undermine the ceasefire, Washington would not hesitate to resume pressure.
