COLOMBO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's state-run fuel importer and distributor Ceylon Petroleum Corporation said on Saturday that owners of petrol-powered vehicles can obtain fuel without the QR code-based quota system from April 11 until April 18.

Corporation chairman D.J. Rajakaruna told a press briefing that the decision was taken in view of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season, when travel demand typically rises across the country.

Sri Lanka began distributing fuel through a mandatory QR code system for vehicles on March 15, as authorities moved to manage reserves amid supply disruptions linked to the tensions in the Middle East. Authorities have since adjusted the system based on demand and availability.
