GAZA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Four Palestinians, including a child, were killed on Tuesday in an Israeli airstrike targeting a police vehicle in Gaza City, according to Palestinian security and medical sources.

Security sources said an Israeli drone fired at least one missile at the vehicle in central Gaza City.

Medical sources at Al-Shifa Hospital confirmed receiving four bodies, one of which was a child.

In a statement, the Hamas-run interior authorities said Israeli warplanes struck the vehicle on al-Nafaq Street, causing multiple casualties.

The Israeli military has not commented yet.

In recent weeks, Israeli forces have carried out strikes on security checkpoints and police vehicles across the Gaza Strip, claiming they target armed elements or potential threats.

Tuesday's attack comes amid ongoing tensions and reported violations of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that began on Oct. 10 last year.

Gaza-based health authorities reported Tuesday that hospitals in the enclave received three bodies and 11 wounded people over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll since the ceasefire to 757, with 2,111 wounded. Total Palestinians fatalities since Oct. 7, 2023 have risen to 72,336, with 172,213 others injured.
