BUCHAREST, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Romania's main ruling coalition party, the Social Democratic Party (PSD), announced on Monday its decision to withdraw support for Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan of the National Liberal Party (PNL), a move that could force the current government to resign.

In a statement of social platform Facebook, Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacsu from PSD said that the measures of the Bolojan government did not achieve the expected results.

"We must look realistically at the recent measures, the increase in value-added tax and the reduction in excise duties, did not generate the expected results ... It is not fair that the entire burden is placed on the population, without economic recovery measures," Neacsu said.

PSD has been Romania's largest left-wing party and the leading member of the ruling coalition led by Bolojan.

The far-right opposition Alliance for the Union of Romanians announced Monday that it will push for a possible no-confidence motion against the government.

In addition to the PNL and PSD, the Romanian ruling coalition also includes the Save Romania Union (USR), the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), and the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities. The PNL and the USR have said that they will no longer accept a coalition government with the PSD if the party triggers a political crisis.
