JERUSALEM/BEIRUT, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Friday that it struck Hezbollah military structures in southern Lebanon.

The strikes were made on the Lebanese villages of Kherbet Selem and Touline in response to the attack by Hezbollah on the Israeli border village of Shtula on Thursday night, said the statement.

The Israeli military said it will "act decisively against threats directed at the Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers, in accordance with directives from the political echelon."

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency confirmed the attack, saying that Israeli aircraft also struck the outskirts of Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah said in a separate statement that its fighters targeted a gathering of Israeli soldiers and military vehicles near Jamil Bazzi School in the city of Bint Jbeil with artillery shells.

The group added that it also targeted an Israeli army bulldozer while it was demolishing homes in the town of Rshaf using an attack drone.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on April 16 that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, which took effect on the same day.

The Israeli military has since carried out several strikes against Hezbollah militants and infrastructure, claiming the attacks as a way to thwart threats to its forces.
