Five people were injured in a series of shooting incidents in the Greek capital of Athens on Tuesday, with an 89-year-old male suspect at large, Greek national broadcaster ERT has reported.

The first shooting occurred shortly before 10:00 a.m. local time (0700 GMT) in the Petralona area in the city's southwest. The suspect reportedly entered the fourth floor of a social security institution building and opened fire with a shotgun. One employee sustained minor injuries to the leg and was rushed to a central Athens hospital in a non-life-threatening condition.

The suspect later allegedly moved to the vicinity of the Magistrates' Court in central Athens. There he entered the ground floor and opened fire, injuring four more people. All injuries were reported to be minor. The shooter abandoned the shotgun at the scene before fleeing.

Authorities identified the suspect as an 89-year-old man known in the areas where he operates. Reports said he has a history of psychiatric treatment.

A large-scale police operation is underway across Athens to locate and apprehend the suspect.
