ISLAMABAD, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's consumer price index (CPI) inflation stood at 10.9 percent year on year in April, up sharply from 7.3 percent in March, official data showed on Friday.

On a month-on-month basis, CPI inflation increased by 2.5 percent in April, compared with a 1.2 percent rise in the previous month, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Urban inflation rose to 11.1 percent year on year in April from 7.4 percent in March, while rural inflation increased to 10.6 percent from 7.2 percent, the data showed.
On a monthly basis, urban CPI inflation increased by 2.7 percent in April, compared with a 1.3 percent rise in March, while rural inflation rose by 2.1 percent, up from 1 percent in the previous month.
During the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, average inflation stood at 6.19 percent, compared with 4.73 percent in the same period last year.
