JERUSALEM, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Saturday said in a statement that it had struck around 50 Hezbollah targets across southern Lebanon over the past day.

The army stated that the strikes killed militants who operated near its soldiers and dismantled infrastructure belonging to the group.
It struck command centers and military structures used by Hezbollah militants to advance attacks against IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians, said the IDF.
In an additional incident, Hezbollah launched several rockets toward IDF soldiers operating in southern Lebanon, according to the statement. The rockets fell in open areas with no casualties reported.
"The IDF will continue to operate against threats directed at Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers, in accordance with directives from the political echelon," the statement read.
The strikes took place despite a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon that came into effect at midnight on April 17, after weeks of escalating cross-border clashes tied to the broader U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced last week that the truce would be extended for an additional three weeks.
