AMMAN, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's armed forces carried out strikes early Sunday, targeting sites used by drug and arms smugglers along the kingdom's northern border with Syria, the army said in a statement.
It said the operation destroyed factories, workshops and warehouses used by these groups as launching points for smuggling operations into Jordanian territory.
The Armed Forces said the strikes were based on intelligence and operational information and were conducted with the highest degree of precision to prevent the flow of drugs and weapons into the country.
The statement also noted a significant increase in weapons and drug smuggling attempts along the border.
In recent years, Jordan has carried out similar operations targeting drug trafficking networks along its northern border with Syria. Jordan and Syria have also seen a high level of cooperation and coordination in defense and security, particularly in combating drug and weapons smuggling.
