WARSAW, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Poland has officially filed a complaint with the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) regarding the EU-Mercosur Interim Trade Agreement, Polish Agriculture Minister Stefan Krajewski announced Monday.

"Poland, as the only country in the European Union (EU), has challenged the Mercosur agreement before the CJEU," Krajewski said on social media X.

He underscored that the safety of Polish farmers and consumers is the top priority of the Polish government. "Our farmers are not afraid of competition, but it must be FAIR," he added.

Poland has been one of the strongest opponents of the agreement. After the failing to block the deal in January, it has continued to express its determination to challenge the agreement before the CJEU.

The EU-Mercosur Interim Trade Agreement entered into provisional application on May 1.

The agreement is expected to gradually eliminate import duties on more than 91 percent of EU goods exported to Mercosur, opening access to a shared market of more than 700 million people.

The European Council adopted two decisions in January, authorizing the signature of the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement and of the Interim Trade Agreement between the EU and Mercosur.
