SAN FRANCISCO, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The Trump administration plans to name longtime immigration official David Venturella as the interim head of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), CBS news reported Tuesday.
Venturella is expected to replace acting ICE Director Todd Lyons, who is leaving the agency at the end of May, said the report, citing a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson and two U.S. officials.
Venturella has worked at ICE under both Republican and Democratic administrations and rejoined the agency last year after U.S. President Donald Trump returned to the White House, according to the report.
Before returning to ICE, Venturella worked at GEO Group, one of the major private prison companies operating immigration detention centers across the United States. He also previously worked at the now-defunct Immigration and Naturalization Service.
