More than 80 people died and over 100 others were injured in north India, mostly in Uttar Pradesh state, due to heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, lightning and hailstorms over the past 24 hours, government officials confirmed on Thursday.
Besides, heavy livestock losses and damage to houses and other property were also reported from various places in Uttar Pradesh. Thousands of trees were uprooted, and many incidents of wall collapse were reported, claiming human lives.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed relief commissioners across all districts to provide all possible relief and aid to the victims.
One of the worst-hit districts was Prayagraj, where nearly 20 people died.
