Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte blamed the current administration for the country's political unrest, saying the nation has fallen into turmoil.
"Our nation is in disorder when it shouldn't be," Sara said in a video message at The Hague, Netherlands, where her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is arrested in the International Criminal Court.
Regarding the issues inside the Senate building involving Senator Ronald Dela Rosa on Wednesday night, Sara said the situation in the Philippines is "saddening and infuriating," especially the display of disrespect toward the institution of the Senate.
Amid tensions surrounding reports of an attempted arrest of Dela Rosa, gunshots rang out inside the Philippine Senate complex on Wednesday night, triggering chaos and confusion inside the building. The situation later calmed down, according to Senate officials.
Sara alleged that the current administration's actions have deepened political divisions and heightened fears among some Filipinos regarding the country's political direction.
According to local media reports, the latest statements underscored the escalating political conflict between the Duterte camp and the current administration.
Meanwhile, Senator Imee Marcos on Thursday asked her brother, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, to suspend three officials, including National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) chief Melvin Matibag.
Imee expressed "serious concern" over what she described as an "alleged siege and firing of shots by NBI" that caused "public alarm and raised grave questions on the security of the Senate and the accountability of law enforcement officers involved."
