SEOUL, May 17 (Xinhua) -- A football club from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) arrived at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, on Sunday for the semifinals of the AFC Women's Champions League, marking the first visit by DPRK athletes to South Korea for a sports competition in nearly eight years.
Naegohyang Women's FC of the DPRK will face South Korea's Suwon FC Women at 7:00 p.m. local time on May 20 at Suwon Stadium.
The last time DPRK athletes took part in a sports event in South Korea was the International Table Tennis Federation World Tour Grand Finals held in Incheon in December 2018, where DPRK player Cha Hyo Sim teamed up with South Korean player Jang Woo-jin in mixed doubles.
Founded in Pyongyang in 2012, Naegohyang won the DPRK first-division league title in the 2021-22 season.
