VILNIUS, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Lithuania's government issued an air raid alert on Wednesday after an unmanned aerial vehicle was spotted in Belarusian territory near the eastern Lithuanian border, urging residents to seek shelter and temporarily halting flights at Vilnius International Airport.

The National Crisis Management Center reported that the alert was cancelled in Vilnius shortly before 11 a.m. (0800 GMT).

There has been a recent surge in drone incidents across the Baltic states. A NATO Baltic Air Policing fighter jet shot down a drone that entered Estonian airspace over Lake Vortsjarv at around noon on Tuesday.
