ISTANBUL, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rainfall in Türkiye's southern province of Hatay caused severe flooding, road collapses and structural damage overnight, leaving at least two people dead, Turkish Anadolu Agency reported on Thursday.

In the Antakya district, a house built on a hillside collapsed onto a road after intense rainfall. Emergency teams, including medical personnel, firefighters, police and disaster management officials, were dispatched to the scene.

Three people were rescued alive from the debris, while one person was found dead, authorities said.

Heavy rain also caused major traffic disruptions across the province, temporarily closing several roads.

In another incident, a vehicle lost control and plunged into a stream bed after the road collapsed due to heavy rainfall, killing the driver.

Floodwaters also inundated homes and businesses in several other areas, while firefighters were trying to rescue residents trapped inside buildings. Local authorities are continuing damage assessments and emergency response operations across the province.
