Russia's Emergency Ministry said a large-scale overnight drone assault hit the campus of Starobelsk College, affiliated with Luhansk Pedagogical University, causing the collapse of a student dormitory building.
A total of 86 students aged 14 to 18, along with one staff member, were inside the building at the time of the strike. Forty people have sought medical assistance following the attack, including 14 minors, regional Health Minister Natalia Paschenko told local media.
"The five-storey building collapsed down to its second floor," said Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for the Investigative Committee of Russia. She said four drones were involved in the attack on the college's administrative premises and dormitory.
Several people remain trapped under the rubble while the death and injury toll is still being verified, Petrenko said.
Russia's Ministry of Education has dispatched specialists to provide emergency psychological support to survivors and affected individuals at the college.
Ukraine has not yet commented on the attack.
