5 killed as private car crashes into truck in Bangladesh

DHAKA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Five people, including three members of a family, were killed after a private car rammed into a truck waiting in a toll queue on an expressway in Faridpur district, about 101 km away from the capital Dhaka, early on Tuesday.

Abu Zafar, an official from the local Bhanga Fire Service Station, told journalists that the accident occurred at around 3:45 a.m. local time when the car lost control and crashed into the rear of the truck carrying gas cylinders.

He said firefighters and police rescued the victims from the wreckage and took them to a hospital, where four, including a woman, her son and daughter, were pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the official, two other victims were referred to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

One of them succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment there, raising the death toll to five, he added.
