BEIRUT, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Israel launched airstrikes and artillery attacks on the Nabatieh area in south Lebanon on Wednesday, Lebanon's National News Agency reported.

Israeli attacks targeted the Nabatieh al-Fawqa area, the eastern outskirts of neighboring town Kfar Tebnit, and the town of Ansariyeh in the Zahrani area, said the report.

There is no immediate comment from the Israel Defense Forces on the operation.

Following the announcement of a U.S.-Iran peace memorandum of understanding (MoU), which is also expected to end fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, violence in southern Lebanon has declined, although at least five people have been killed by Israeli fire since the deal was announced, the agency said.
