A man in his 60s living alone in Shimokitayama Village in Nara Prefecture made an emergency call early Wednesday morning saying he had been attacked by a bear on his property, which is surrounded by mountains, public broadcaster NHK reported.
The man, reportedly attacked near a toilet outside the main structure of his home, was taken to a hospital with head and face injuries that were not life-threatening.
Also on Wednesday morning, emergency services in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, responded to a call that a man had been attacked by a bear in a mountainous area of the city.
The man in his 80s was attacked when taking a walk along some rice paddies, and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the report said.
Authorities in the two places are patrolling nearby areas and calling on people to exercise caution with the bears remaining on the loose.
