Venezuela's Interior, Justice and Peace Minister Diosdado Cabello said the strong earthquakes reported late Wednesday afternoon have caused damage in cities across the country, according to media reports.
Buildings collapsed in the eastern part of the Caracas metropolitan area, Cabello said in a television address, giving no immediate details on casualties or injuries.
Cabello also urged people to remain outside as aftershocks could further damage some structures, while calling on them to stay calm and united as the country deals with the quakes' aftermath.
