The development came a day after Lebanon and Israel signed a U.S.-brokered framework agreement in Washington aimed at advancing a lasting security arrangement and laying the groundwork for a broader peace process.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces advanced toward the outskirts of the village of Kfarchouba in the Hasbaya district while carrying out sweeps with medium and heavy machine guns, the NNA reported, adding that an Israeli drone dropped a stun grenade near the outskirts of the town of Kfar Tebnit.
Separately, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in Lebanon with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in a phone call on Friday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
The Egyptian minister stressed the need for Israel to carry out gradual withdrawals from areas that remain under its occupation, enabling the Lebanese Armed Forces to deploy and the Lebanese state to extend its authority across the country's entire territory.
He also underscored the importance of building on the agreement to achieve a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon and ensure the full and non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's full support for the Lebanese government and its policies aimed at restoring state sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, including the deployment of the Lebanese army throughout the country and placing all weapons under the authority of the state, in a way that enhances Lebanon's security and stability.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Friday that Israel and Lebanon have reached a U.S.-brokered framework agreement for "lasting peace and security."
The framework agreement, signed at the end of the latest round of ambassador-level talks in Washington, D.C. on Friday, called again for the implementation of a fragile ceasefire between the two Mideast nations.
