11 killed in traffic accident in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Eleven people were killed in a major traffic accident on the Dushanbe-Kulob-Khorog highway in Tajikistan on Thursday morning, the country's Interior Ministry said.
A truck traveling near the village of Elok in Vahdat, east of the capital Dushanbe, suffered brake failure and collided with two passenger vehicles. The truck driver, one of the car drivers and nine passengers in the two vehicles were killed, the ministry said in a statement posted on Facebook.
Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda, the head of the State Motor Vehicle Inspectorate, the Vahdat city prosecutor and other officials arrived at the scene. An investigation into the accident is underway, it said.
