A civilian was also killed during the confrontation, which took place in a village in Katingan regency early Thursday morning.
Katingan police chief Dodik Hartono told local media that a team of officers launched the pre-dawn operation to apprehend a suspected repeat drug offender and his accomplice. While officers secured the main suspect, the situation escalated rapidly when the suspect's family resisted the arrest, creating a life-threatening situation for the personnel.
A joint police team continued searching for the missing officers on Thursday, while additional personnel were deployed to secure the village and prevent further violence.
