6.4-magnitude earthquake strikes off Japan's Miyakojima Island: JMA

TOKYO, July 3 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 struck waters northwest of Miyakojima Island in Japan's Okinawa Prefecture on Friday, the weather agency said.

The temblor occurred at 1:05 p.m. local time at a shallow depth, measuring 3 on Japan's seismic intensity scale of 7 in Kume Island, said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The quake's epicenter was located at a latitude of 26 degrees north and a longitude of 125.8 degrees east.

No tsunami warning was issued, the JMA said.
