Cambodian King returns from Beijing medical trip

PHNOM PENH, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and his mother, former Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, returned home safely on Friday afternoon after spending about four months in Beijing, China, for medical checkups and treatment.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet posted on social media welcoming the royal family's arrival at the Techo International Airport.

In Beijing, King Sihamoni underwent successful surgery at Beijing Hospital following a prostate cancer diagnosis in April, according to the Royal Palace.

The monarch is gradually recovering and regaining strength following the surgery, the Royal Palace said in a statement on Tuesday.

The 73-year-old King travels to Beijing twice a year for routine health checkups by Chinese doctors.
