KABUL, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have transferred about 2,650 Afghan prisoners from prisons in neighboring Iran to Afghanistan over the past five years, the local media Tolo news reported on Saturday.

According to the report, the transfers were carried out under a bilateral agreement on the transfer of convicted prisoners.

Since the establishment of the relevant committee, around 2,650 Afghan nationals convicted in Iran have been transferred to Afghanistan and placed under the supervision of the country's prison authorities, the report said.

Legal experts say expanding judicial cooperation between Afghanistan and neighboring countries could facilitate the transfer of more Afghan prisoners.
